The role of government is to:

• Deliver the essential public goods which create a good society.

• Protect people by creating regulation.

• Collect and fairly distribute revenue to deliver a sustainable, inclusive and prosperous society.

• Manage and mitigate risk, especially for people who are vulnerable.

• Build capability for the long-term through investing in research, skills and education, infrastructure and planning for future generations as well as protecting the environment.

• Act as a good global citizen.
